Community Science

Project Urban Bees of the Great Lakes Region
To continue improving pollinator habitat on urban farms and connecting the public to science through outreach, the BUG Project has launched a community science venture!
Urban Bees of the Great Lakes Region (GLR) is an iNaturalist project that utilizes community member observations of bees on native flowers in urban spaces. This work informs habitat management by increasing our understanding of seasonal pollinator resource needs. It also provides insight on how plant communities influence bee community structure in cities. By knowing which native flowers are most visited by bees in the cities around us, we can sustainably improve habitat for important crop pollinators. Add your photos of bees visiting native flowers in urban spaces to help!
