ESA Meeting 2014
Congratulations to Nicole for winning in the Student Competition for the President’s Prize at the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America in Portland, Oregon! Her 10 minute oral presentation was about how different types of tillage and mulches influence insects, such as seed predators, in a squash field.
Vegetable Industry Scholarship
Congratulations to Adam, Jeremy, Nicole and Katie for receiving this year’s Michigan Vegetable Industry Scholarship Award ($1,500 each). The scholarships will be presented during the banquet program at the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market EXPO on Dec. 10 in Grand Rapids, MI.
New publications!
Two new publications from the lab are now in press. One is by former Ph.D. student, Rob Morrison; an asparagus beetle profile to be published in the Journal of Integrated Pest Management. The other paper is from work conducted by former M.S. student, Alex Bryant, on biological control of cabbages pests.
Award winners
Congratulations to three current and former lab members for winning entomology department awards that were given out at the spring picnic. The Paul Wooly Award for outstanding total M.S. program went to former student Alex Bryant who is currently a 4H extension agent at the University of Kentucky. The Robert Dreisbach Award for outstanding total Ph.D. program went to Rob Morrison, who also won the 2013 Bughouse Volunteer of the Year award. Jeremy Jubenville won the 2013 Gene Rhodes Thompson Fellowship.
